Job Title Adjunct Faculty - Philosophy and Religion
Location Worcester
Department Humanities & Arts - JM
Division Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI
Summary:
Part‑time adjunct faculty pool in Philosophy and Religion to fill opportunities on a course‑by‑course basis as need arises.
Responsibilities:
The Humanities and Arts Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is regularly seeking part‑time adjunct faculty to teach Philosophy and Religions (PY‑RE) courses. PY‑RE faculty teach introductory courses, intermediate thematic surveys, and advanced topic seminars. WPI’s PY‑RE program has particular strengths in social justice and environmental philosophy; underrepresented philosophical and religious traditions including feminism, critical race theory, and non‑Western worldviews; and studies of science, technology, and ethics.
We anticipate the need for adjunct faculty who could teach courses in bioethics, philosophy of science, epistemology, non‑Western philosophies and religions (especially Chinese traditions), and critical race theory.
All adjunct applicants should have the capacity to teach our core introductory course, Introduction to Philosophy and Religion. We are looking for outstanding scholars, but successful candidates must also demonstrate teaching excellence and versatility as well as an ability to jump into an existing curriculum with creative and critical pedagogical approaches.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate should hold a PhD in Philosophy or Religious Studies or be a doctoral student who is ABD. All applicants should demonstrate relevant expertise and experience in teaching philosophy or religion courses.
Application Process:
Submitting an application through this part‑time posting will place you in an applicant pool to fill Philosophy and Religion adjunct faculty opportunities on a course‑by‑course basis. Qualified applicants from this applicant pool will be contacted as opportunities arise. Your application will remain in the pool until the posting closes. If you wish to be considered for positions beyond that date, you must reapply.
Applicants should submit the following:
Cover letter that addresses relevant expertise and experience
Current CV that includes the names and contact information for three references
Evidence of teaching experience (syllabi, teaching portfolio, etc.)
Compensation $6,000 per course
EEO Statement:
WPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability. It seeks individuals from all backgrounds and experiences who will contribute to a culture of creativity, collaboration, inclusion, problem solving, innovation, high performance, and change making. It is committed to maintaining a campus environment free of harassment and discrimination.
