Hours: Varied (Post hours/scheduled ifknown) Position Number: 222703/10-1189FLSA Status: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator for Commuter Affairs and Upperclass Communities is a full-time,12-month professional staff position that provides direct programmatic, operational, and logistical support across all functional areas under the Assistant Director of Commuter Life and Upperclass Programming. This position isdesigned to function as the operational backbone of the office, ensuring thatcommuter student programs, the Commuter Assistant program, upperclass communityengagement, community and neighborhood relations efforts, and assessmentactivities are sustained and executed with consistency. The Coordinatorserves as a frontline point of contact for commuter and off-campus students, maintains active collaboration with campus partners, and supports the Senior Director's ability to fulfill strategic, institutional, and external-facingresponsibilities. The role willlive on campus and serve in the SHRL resident director on-call rotation.
DUTIES: ANDRESPONSIBILITIES: COMMUTER AFFAIRS PROGRAMS, SERVICES, AND OFF-CAMPUS STUDENT SUPPORTAssists in thedevelopment, implementation, and assessment of programs, services, andresources for commuter and off-campus students, including undergraduate andgraduate populations. Managesday-to-day operations of the Commuter Center, including space oversight, resource availability, and responsive student assistance. Coordinates theannual update and distribution of the Off-Campus Guide and all related commuterresources. Supports the Commuter Council as a staff resource, assisting the Senior Director inadministering the student-led governing body. Promotesresponsible off-campus living practices, including awareness of City of Pittsburgh ordinances governing noise, occupancy, parking, and trash removal. Assists inmonitoring and responding to emerging issues affecting commuter and off-campusstudent welfare, including renter's rights, housing instability, and firesafety. Assists the Senior Director in following up with students regarding off-campus behaviorconcerns, in coordination with the Office of Student Conduct. Provides ongoingproactive and responsive communication to commuter and off-campus students viaemail, campus platforms, and the office email account. COMMUTERASSISTANT PROGRAM AND STUDENT OUTREACH.Assists in therecruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Commuter Assistant (CA) student staff in support of the Senior Director's oversight ofthe program. Assist inassigning incoming students to Commuter Assistant groups. Assists in theplanning and implementation of Commuter Assistant Training and Commuter Pre-Orientation, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and studentonboarding timelines. UPPERCLASSCOMMUNITY PROGRAMMING AND ENGAGEMENT Assists indeveloping and implementing programming models and engagement strategies forupper-class students living in University-affiliated communities andoff-campus. Coordinatesevents, programs, and initiatives designed to foster belonging, academicconnection, and social engagement among upperclass students who havetransitioned out of traditional residence halls. Supports the Senior Director in maintaining collaboration with the Director of Residence Life and staff to ensure continuity of programming and student support acrosson-campus and off-campus populations. Serves asoperational support for the office's upperclass community engagement calendarand logistics. COMMUNITY ANDNEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS SUPPORT Assists inpreparation and logistics for participation in city municipal meetings, neighborhood forums, and civic events where the Senior Director represents the University. Supports outreachand communication with South Side neighborhood organizations, including the South Side Community Council, Block Watches, South Side Community Forum, andthe South Side Chamber of Commerce, as directed. Assists incoordinating with the Office of Community Engagement to connect off-campusstudents with service and civic engagement opportunities in the surroundingneighborhood. Supports the Senior Director's collaboration with the Department of Athletics and the Officeof Greek Life to provide targeted off-campus living guidance to studentathletes and fraternity/sorority members residing on the South Side. ASSESSMENT, REPORTING, AND OFFICE COMMUNICATIONSAssists inimplementing the office's annual assessment plan for commuter and off-campusstudent programs; collects, manages, and maintains data used to informprogramming decisions and resource allocation. Assists inpreparing annual reports on departmental activities, community relations, andstudent engagement outcomes. Manages officesocial media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and other relevant platforms), theoffice website, email lists, and Campus Link, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with the Senior Director's communications priorities Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, student affairs, counseling, communicationsor a related field from an accredited educational institution.1-3 years ofrelevant experience.
Preferred qualifications: Masters degree in higher education administration or a related field from anaccredited educational institution. Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following: Knowledge of commuter and off-campus student needs, challenges, and engagementstrategies in a higher education setting. Demonstratedability to plan, coordinate, and implement programs and services for diversestudent populations, including undergraduate and graduate students. Stronginterpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to communicateproactively and responsively with students, families, campus partners, andcommunity stakeholders. Experiencesupervising and developing student staff, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation. Ability to managemultiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a complex, fast-pacedenvironment. Strongorganizational skills and attention to detail in managing rosters, programlogistics, assessment data, and communications. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, campus engagement platforms (e.g., Campus Link), andsocial media management. Ability to workcollaboratively across departments and with external community organizations. Ability to worksome evenings and weekends as required by departmental programs and events. Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
