Job Description:
The Production Artist is responsible for preparing, modifying, and executing production-ready artwork for custom decorated clothing and headwear. This position works closely with the customer service, sales, and creative departments to ensure artwork is accurate, properly formatted, and ready for production. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, technically proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This role focuses primarily on the execution and production of existing artwork rather than original concept development.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and finalize artwork for decorated apparel and headwear. Modify existing graphics, including changing colors, text, layouts, locations, and other design elements as requested. Create destination, school, resort, event, and customer-specific versions of existing artwork. Rebuild, clean up, and vectorize customer-supplied artwork when necessary. Resize and adapt graphics for different garments, products, imprint locations, and decoration methods. Prepare production-ready files for screen printing, embroidery, appliqué, and other decoration processes. Review artwork for accuracy, including spelling, colors, dimensions, placement, and overall production feasibility. Ensure files meet established production specifications and quality standards. Create and maintain organized production files using established naming conventions and file structures. Create web images as needed to fulfill customer needs for online sales. Work closely with Sales, Graphic Design, and Production to complete artwork revisions and approvals accurately and efficiently. Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines in a high-output environment. Follow established brand standards, templates, and graphic styles when adapting existing artwork. Identify potential artwork or production issues before files are released for production.
Qualifications:
College degree in graphic design, production art, or equivalent professional experience preferred.3–5 years of production art, graphic design, or related experience preferred. Decorated apparel, screen-printing, embroidery, or applique experience strongly preferred. Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with Adobe InDesign is beneficial. Strong understanding of vector artwork, raster artwork, typography, color, file preparation, and production specifications. Experience preparing artwork for screen printing or other apparel-decoration processes is strongly preferred. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify errors and inconsistencies. Ability to accurately follow instructions, specifications, templates, and established graphic standards. Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment. Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines simultaneously. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Self-motivated, dependable, and results-oriented. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to quality.
