The Detention Officer role in Canton, MS is a vital part of maintaining a safe environment for residents, staff, and detainees. Role Description The Detention Officer is a full-time, on-site position located at the Madison County detention facility in Canton, MS. This role is responsible for supervising detainees, maintaining security and order within housing units, and conducting regular headcounts and inspections. Daily tasks include monitoring inmate movement, operating security equipment, enforcing facility rules and regulations, and completing accurate logs and incident reports. The Detention Officer assists with intake and release processes, searches, and transportation of detainees as required, while ensuring compliance with legal and departmental standards. The position requires working as part of a team, responding to emergencies, and interacting professionally with detainees, staff, and visitors. Qualifications Candidates should possess skills related to detention operations, including supervision of detainees and adherence to facility procedures. Candidates should possess skills related to physical security, such as monitoring secure areas, conducting searches, and operating security systems. Candidates should possess knowledge of criminal justice principles, including legal rights, due process, and corrections best practices. Candidates should possess experience or training in law enforcement or closely related public safety roles.
