A well-established, privately held commercial real estate owner and operator is seeking anIn-house Counselto join its Jacksonville office. This is an opportunity to become the in-house legal resource for an active real estate platform and work directly alongside executive leadership and a highly experienced real estate team. The company offers a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with a flat organizational structure, direct access to decision-makers, and the opportunity to have meaningful impact on the business. This is not a highly layered corporate legal department. The successful candidate will be a hands-on commercial real estate attorney who enjoys being close to the deals, leasing activity, and day-to-day operations of a real estate portfolio.
The Role:
The In-House Counsel will oversee the company's legal matters with a primary emphasis on commercial leasing, while also supporting acquisitions and collections. With the assistance of a paralegal, this position will work closely with an established in-house leasing and acquisitions team while utilizing outside legal support as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize commercial leases, amendments, renewals, assignments, and related agreements
- Partner with the in-house leasing team from LOI/term sheet through lease execution
- Support commercial real estate acquisitions and related transactional matters
- Review and negotiate purchase and sale agreements and other acquisition documentation
- Coordinate with business leadership throughout due diligence and closings
- Handle and oversee collection-related legal matters
- Provide practical legal guidance to senior leadership and internal stakeholders
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and determine when external legal support is necessary
- Bring additional legal work in-house where practical and cost-effective
- Supervise and partner with the company's in-house paralegal
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in commercial real estate law, either at a law firm, in-house, or both
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Florida Bar membership in good standing
- Knowledge of commercial real estate acquisitions, leasing, and collections.
- Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage litigation and disputes effectively.
