School Health & Wellness Counselor (Grant Funded)The School Health & Wellness Counselor provides regional behavioral health services and support to SCBOCES member districts through a coordinated multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). The counselor supports prevention, intervention, crisis response, referral coordination, and school climate initiatives while helping districts build sustainable mental and behavioral health systems aligned with grant goals and evidence-based practices.

Assists districts in implementing Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 behavioral health supports. Supports student mental health screening, referral, and intervention processes. Coordinates with community agencies, contracted providers, and telehealth partners. Participates in crisis response, suicide risk assessment, threat assessment, and re-entry planning as appropriate. Supports implementation of PBIS, SEL, trauma-informed practices, and prevention initiatives. Assists with attendance, engagement, and school climate improvement efforts. Provides consultation and support to administrators, staff, and families. Delivers professional development and training related to behavioral health and student wellness. Participates in regional Wellness and Crisis Response Teams. Maintains appropriate records, documentation, and reporting required by grant and district procedures. Develops and evaluates a comprehensive approach to improve student mental health through early identification, prevention, and accessible interventions on site for SCBOCES districts. Provides monthly collaborative school counselor BOCES-wide meeting opportunities. Provides input and feedback on the materials and interventions provided throughout the BOCES. Analyzes the impact of wellness programming on students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes. Develops a plan to expand the mental health and wellness programming for school staff. Facilitates the development of resources such as a mental health toolkit for stakeholders. Coordinates and facilitates professional development opportunities with counselors, administrators, and other stakeholders as applicable and appropriate. Works alongside member school districts to provide quality therapy and consulting services. Attends meetings as required. Uses professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision making. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned.
