Fire Protection Designers - Sprinkler & Alarm
Location: 100% Remote – United States
Discipline: Fire Protection Engineering / Design
Specialism: Fire Alarm / Fire SprinklerNICET: Preferred, but not essential
About the Opportunity:
A leading national engineering consultancy is urgently looking to add experienced Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler Designers to its growing fire protection team. This is a 100% remote opportunity supporting a strong pipeline of large-scale, technically complex projects across the United States, with a particular focus on mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial and manufacturing environments. The workload is already there, so we're looking for experienced designers who can hit the ground running, work independently and take ownership of their design responsibilities from an early stage. Candidates can specialize in either Fire Alarm or Fire Sprinkler design – you do not need to have experience across both disciplines.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Develop detailed fire alarm and/or fire sprinkler system designs for complex engineering projects.
- Produce design drawings, layouts, calculations, specifications and construction documentation.
- Support projects through multiple stages of design, from initial concepts through construction documents.
- Work on large-scale data center, mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing and infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate fire protection designs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and other engineering disciplines.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings to identify fire protection requirements and potential design conflicts.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable NFPA standards, building codes, fire codes and project-specific requirements.
- Participate in internal design reviews and QA/QC processes.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients and other project stakeholders.
- Manage your own workload across multiple projects while meeting project schedules and deadlines.
- Provide technical input and design support throughout the construction process.
- Fire Alarm DesignFor candidates specializing in Fire Alarm, responsibilities may include:
- Fire alarm system layouts and device placement.
- Notification appliance and initiating device layouts.
- Detection systems.
- Emergency communication and mass notification systems.
- Interface and sequence-of-operations development.
- Battery and voltage-drop calculations.
- Coordination with electrical, life safety and other building systems.
- Design in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
- Fire Sprinkler DesignFor candidates specializing in Fire Sprinkler, responsibilities may include:
- Automatic sprinkler system layouts and design.
- Hazard classification and system selection.
- Hydraulic calculations.
- Fire water demand calculations.
- Standpipe and fire suppression system coordination.
- Equipment and piping layouts.
- Coordination with architectural, structural and MEP disciplines.
- Design in accordance with NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20 and other applicable standards.
What We're Looking For:
Previous professional experience in Fire Alarm and/or Fire Sprinkler design.
Strong experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD within an engineering or design environment.
Experience producing detailed construction documents and design packages.
Strong working knowledge of relevant NFPA codes and standards.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, MEP and engineering drawings.
Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination.
Ability to work independently within a fully remote environment.
Comfortable managing deadlines and multiple active projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Experience: Experience working on technically demanding projects such as:
- Data Centers
- Mission-Critical Facilities
- Industrial Facilities
- Manufacturing Plants
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Large-Scale Infrastructure
- High-Hazard / Complex Facilities
Candidates coming directly from these environments will be particularly attractive, as the team needs designers capable of making an immediate impact on existing projects.
Certifications:
NICET certification is preferred but not essential.
Candidates with strong practical Fire Alarm or Fire Sprinkler design experience will still be considered without NICET.Relevant NICET certifications, particularly within Fire Alarm Systems or Water-Based Systems Layout, would be advantageous.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a large national engineering organization with a significant pipeline of complex fire protection work.
You'll have the chance to work on some of the most technically challenging projects in the market, particularly within the rapidly growing data center and mission-critical sectors, while remaining 100% remote anywhere within the US.The company is actively growing its fire protection capabilities, meaning there is plenty of opportunity for increased responsibility and longer-term career development.
Most importantly, this is an urgent hire. The projects and workload are already in place, and the team is looking to bring experienced designers onboard who can contribute quickly.
