The Role:
We are seeking a Tax Manager to oversee tax matters for our expanding US operations, working primarily through external tax advisors. The role will focus on US tax compliance and planning, tax incentives, cost segregation, and investment tax credit (ITC) matters for manufacturing and development projects. Working with the Controller and global Finance team, the manager will coordinate inputs, review technical tax deliverables, monitor tax developments, and ensure timely resolution of tax matters.
Responsibilities
Tax Incentives and Project Support:
Work with external tax advisors to identify and evaluate federal, state, and local tax incentives for manufacturing and energy projects.
Maintain an incentive register covering eligibility requirements, applications, deadlines, expected benefits, and ongoing compliance obligations.
Coordinate advisor-led ITC eligibility and adder testing, credit transfer diligence, and supporting documentation; track open questions and conclusions.
Coordinate cost segregation studies with external specialists, including cost data, asset classifications, site information, and review of draft reports.
Monitor changes in tax rules and project assumptions; communicate potential impacts on benefits, timing, and recapture exposure.
US Tax Planning and Compliance:
Oversee advisor-prepared federal, state, and local income tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions; coordinate inputs, review deliverables, and track deadlines.
Work with external tax and legal advisors on US entity and project tax planning, ownership structures, intercompany arrangements, and manufacturing operations.
Coordinate advisor support for sales and use tax, property tax, and other business tax obligations, including exemption documentation.
Oversee advisor-prepared tax basis and depreciation schedules and coordinate responses to tax notices and examinations.
Tax Reporting and Finance Coordination:
Coordinate and review advisor-prepared income tax provisions and related tax schedules with the Controller, providing tax inputs for financial reporting.
Work with advisors to evaluate tax positions, tax basis, deferred tax considerations, and other tax matters affecting financial reporting.
Review tax forecasts, cash tax estimates, and incentive timing assumptions for use in budgets, cash planning, and project financial models.
Coordinate tax-related audit support with the global Finance team and external auditors.
Controls and Business Partnership:
Establish tax review controls and organized records supporting filings, incentive claims, cost segregation studies, and ITC testing.
Manage advisor scope, fees, timelines, and deliverables; resolve open items and explain conclusions to business stakeholders.
Improve tax data collection, compliance tracking, and advisor reporting through NetSuite and other finance systems.
Qualifications:
RequiredBachelor's or master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field.
Active CPA license.
At least five years of progressive tax experience across public accounting and private industry.
Strong knowledge of US corporate income tax, federal and multistate compliance, tax planning, and business tax matters.
Experience coordinating external tax advisors, reviewing technical tax deliverables, and managing key deadlines.
Strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently across functions.
Preferred:
Renewable energy experience, including ITC eligibility testing, applicable adders, and tax credit transfers.
Experience coordinating cost segregation studies, manufacturing incentives, or project development tax matters.
Experience with multi-entity or international organizations and NetSuite.
