Position: Lifeguard Location: 133-01 41st Rd, Flushing, NY 11355 Salary Range: $20.50 per hour Schedule: 25 hours per week Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt About UsSince 1876, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) has been partnering with boys and young men in after-school, weekend, and summer programs that support youth growth and development. BCNY's two well-equipped clubhouses in East Harlem and Flushing and its wilderness camp in Harriman State Park offer activities and programs remarkable in their range. From swimming to robotics and enjoying ice skating in Central Park and a trip to the theatre on Saturdays, BCNY programs and events deepen interests and skills and are free of charge to members and their families. With the increase in youth directly impacted by the shelter and homelessness crisis in New York City, BCNY is dedicated to increasing equitable access to its free, high quality youth programs that foster brave spaces where boys and young men can connect, have fun and build lifelong friendships with peers and mentor. Job Summary: The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring that all members participating in swimming activities enjoy a safe, harm-free experience by setting and implementing rules and supervising the swimming area.

Responsibilities: Directly supervise and guard youth participants and staff in the swimming poolsAssist in the regular maintenance of swimming pool areas, ensuring their safe operationTake initiative, provide problem solving, and respond appropriately, to participant situations in swimming pool areasEnsure that all necessary reports are completed on a daily basisUse behavior management strategies to defuse inappropriate behaviorAttend required department meetings and professional development trainingsOther duties as assigned QualificationsAt least 1 year experience as a pool lifeguard, instructor, or comparableDemonstrated leadership experience in an educational, social service and/or youth development settingFamiliarity with principles of supervision, organization, and maintenanceCurrent Lifeguard Certification from the American Red Cross requiredFirst Aid and CPR Certification required What We OfferPTO: Sick time only The Boys' Club of New York is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other status protected by law.
