Summary:
Under limited supervision, supervises and performs skilled work in the construction, repair and maintenance of wastewater and storm water collection systems, water distribution systems, treatment plants, lift stations, hydrants, sewer lines, mains, fire, and service lines, construction manholes, repairing sidewalks with meter boxes, flow testing service lines, and responding to user complaints; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Which are not in any hierarchical order) Plans and organizes work and supervises crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater and storm water collection systems, treatment plants, and lift stations. Maintains and repairs sewer mains, manholes and laterals, and air release valves. Caps water and sewer connections for demos. Plugs sewer laterals for non-payment. Removes water meters for demo, and conducts monthly surveys of problem manholes and sewer mains in service area. Locate laterals for new construction, verifies active lateral and proper connections on new construction. Arranges for and supervises the movement of tools, equipment, and crews to and from works sites. Ensures equipment and tools are in proper working order at all times and schedules and/or makes repairs as needed, transports equipment needing repair out of town and manages inventory of supplies and parts. Locates and makes detailed sketches of lateral and manhole locations and type of pipe and footage on each section of main in sewer system and maintains maps for accuracy. Supervises or makes temporary and permanent pavement and sidewalk repairs in conjunction with construction and maintenance of water and waste water systems. Completes employee performance reviews and other employee related paperwork, recommends training for employees, and attends job related training courses to improve and/or enhance job performance. Keeps records of assignments, prepares progress reports and time/cost accounting reports. Notifies residents and property owners of utility system shut downs. Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices, ensures workers follow safety practices, and inspects all emergency and safety equipment for trucks and tools. Performs operations and maintenance supervisors job and all other wastewater collection functions as required. Responds to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis and works outside normal working hours as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary Pay Grade 54 $26.22 Hourly Excelent Benefits!
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years experience in maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, including one (1) year lead or supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires FW&PCOA Class C sanitary collection, storm water collection, or water distribution certification, or ability to obtain within one year from date of employment. A current and valid Florida driver's license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver's license within 30 days from date of employment. A valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B may be required depending on area of assignment. Special Driving Requirements Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations. Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.
Education Requirements:
To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a, b or c above for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a, b, or c above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
Additional Details:
The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: evaluation of training and experience, written examination, structured oral interview or other assessment method. State of Emergency: When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
