Linux Kernel Software Engineer

Overview In this role you will contribute to Arista’s EOS Linux kernel, evolving kernel features and tests while collaborating with hardware and kernel communities. You will own projects from definition to deployment, influence product stability and performance, and mentor junior engineers. You’ll work across cross-functional teams to diagnose and fix issues in customer networks and in internal test systems. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position at the intersection of software and hardware engineering. Compensation / Benefitsbase pay 123000-191000 USDdiscretionary bonuses and equitylocation-based pay rangesmedical, dental, visionwellbeing benefitstax savings and income protection Responsibilities Track Linux Kernel developments and identify features relevant to Arista products Develop and maintain EOS Kernel features and tests using C, C++ and Python; review specs Build automated tests and test infrastructure for feature validation Qualify new kernel-dependent hardware components (CPUs, NICs) with hardware engineers Contribute features back to the mainline kernel Integrate new kernel versions for EOS and internal development Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools Collaborate with Customer Support Engineers and customers to analyze and fix network problems Mentor new and junior engineers to ramp up in Arista’s software environment Work with System Test Engineers to diagnose and fix issues in tests Key requirements Expert knowledge of and extensive experience programming in CKnowledge of C++ and Python desired Hands-on Linux kernel troubleshooting experience Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design and implementation Understanding of upstream kernel patching process and procedures Understanding of IP networking principles Applied understanding of modern software engineering practices Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills Strong software design and implementation abilities Ability to work independently and in small teams Clear communication and documentation of designs and implementations Familiarity with x 86 and ARM CPU architectures Strong problem solving Clear communication Mentoring abilityC programmingC++ programming Python programming
