Fractional Director of Human Resources
We are seeking an experienced Fractional Director of Human Resources to provide strategic and hands‑on HR leadership for a growing, multi-location medical practice with approximately 75 employees based in Long Beach CA.The Fractional HR Director will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and department managers while providing oversight of the practice's human resources function. This position is responsible for developing a consistent, professional approach to employee relations, performance management, recruiting, compensation, policies, compliance, and workforce planning across all areas and operating units. The successful candidate will combine strong HR judgment with a practical understanding of the unique demands of a health care environment. This role requires someone who can provide senior‑level advice while also becoming directly involved when an employee or management issue requires attention.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary HR advisor to leadership and department managers on employee staffing, performance, and organizational matters.
Manage employee relations, including workplace concerns, disciplinary matters, performance issues, investigations, and terminations.
Coach managers on employee supervision, documentation, difficult conversations, and consistent application of HR policies.
Manage recruiting, hiring, onboarding, retention, and offboarding processes.
Develop and maintain an effective performance‑management and employee‑review process.
Review compensation practices and assist leadership with salary, promotion, bonus, and benefit decisions.
Maintain and periodically update the employee handbook, HR policies, job descriptions, and personnel procedures.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and California employment law including bi‑weekly payroll process.
Coordinate with employment counsel, benefits advisors, payroll, and other outside professionals when appropriate.
Qualifications:
Significant progressive HR experience, including senior HR or leadership responsibility.
Healthcare or other professional services experience desired.
Strong knowledge of federal and California employment law.
Demonstrated experience with employee relations, coaching, recruiting, compensation, and performance management.
Excellent judgment, discretion, communication skills, and ability to work effectively with leadership, directors, managers, and employees.
SHRM, PHR/SPHR, or comparable HR certification desirable.
Experience with paycom.com highly desirable.
