Art Tutor (Paid Position)

Position Overview: A Free Bird is seeking a compassionate and creative Art Tutor to provide in-person visual arts instruction for children affected by cancer in Mountainside, New Jersey. The tutor will work with children ages 4–18, creating engaging, age-appropriate art experiences that encourage creativity, confidence, and emotional expression in a supportive environment. This is a paid position.

Responsibilities: Facilitate engaging in-person art sessions for children ages 4–18 using a variety of artistic mediums. Develop and submit structured lesson plans to the Programs Director and/or Take Flight Programs Coordinator. Adapt lessons to meet each child's interests, developmental level, and individual needs. Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment that promotes creativity and self-expression. Document completed artwork by photographing projects and submitting all required materials. Complete pre-session and post-session evaluations via Google Forms. Observe participant well-being and promptly communicate any concerns to the appropriate A Free Bird staff member. Communicate professionally and compassionately with children, parents, caregivers, and program staff. Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging workspace during each session.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Arts Education, or a related field preferred. At least one year of experience teaching art or working with children in an educational, community, or therapeutic setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Creative, patient, dependable, and adaptable. Experience working with children affected by serious illness is a plus. Time Commitment Paid position On-site in Mountainside, New Jersey 4-hour sessions (weekly or as scheduled)
