Senior Onsite Compute Engineer (SME)Location: New York, NY / New Jersey (Hybrid)Schedule: 40 Hours per weekEquipment: Laptop ProvidedInterview Process: [To be confirmed - typically 1-2 rounds via Teams/In-person]Number of Openings: 1Position OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on Compute SME to support and optimize on-premises datacenter platforms within the Health & Public Service sector. This role owns the compute layer end-to-end, ensuring high availability, capacity alignment, and adherence to strict security and compliance standards for critical infrastructure.Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesLead the architecture, build, and lifecycle management of onsite compute and virtualization Cisco UCS infrastructure, including UCS Manager/Intersight, Fabric Interconnects, and service profiles.Perform hands-on Dell PowerEdge server administration, managing iDRAC and firmware/driver lifecycles.Oversee VMware vSphere (ESXi/vCenter) and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) operations, including NSX and vSAN Windows Server (AD-joined workloads/Failover Clustering) and Linux (RHEL) operating systems.Act as the primary technical point of contact for escalations, troubleshooting complex hardware, hypervisor, and OS issues.Top 3 Required SkillsCisco UCS Engineering (Intersight/Fabric Interconnects) – 7+ yearsVMware vSphere & VCF (vSAN/NSX integrations) – 7+ yearsServer Hardware Lifecycle (Dell PowerEdge/iDRAC) – 7+ yearsAdditional Desired SkillsWindows Server & Linux (RHEL) AdministrationNetworking & Storage FundamentalsAutomation & Tooling for Datacenter OperationsRunbook Creation & DocumentationIdeal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is a seasoned infrastructure veteran with an \"ownership mindset\" who remains calm under pressure during critical outages. They should possess deep technical expertise in both Cisco and Dell hardware stacks and be comfortable working in a hybrid capacity in the NY/NJ area. Job ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain Cisco UCS and Dell PowerEdge server infrastructure.Manage enterprise virtualization environments using VMware vSphere and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).Provide expert-level troubleshooting across hardware, hypervisors, and Windows/Linux operating systems.Drive automation and tooling initiatives to streamline lifecycle management and patching.
