Hours:
8am to 4pm (Onsite) Reports to: Chief of Staff & Property Owners***Must have a valid driver’s license and car. Bonus if you have Commercial Driver's License (CDL)100% paid medical (approx kicks in after a month), no dental or vision. Can participate in NJ's 401k 2 weeks PTO
Note:
Christmas time is a very hectic time, so staff is encouraged not to take time off then, but support PTO other times throughout the year.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Farm Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a privately owned farm. This is a full-time leadership position responsible for managing farm operations, maintaining equipment and infrastructure, supervising employees, and ensuring the property is operated safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong agricultural knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of productivity and stewardship. The owners are NOT looking for someone to run the property like an estate. Must be open-minded, flexible and adapt to the owner’s preferences. This person must remain calm under pressure, communicates with professionalism and tact, and builds productive relationships with a wide range of employees and vendors.
Note:
this role will also act as a liaison for the family’s other 2 homes in Florida and California. To clarify – the family already have house managers and construction managers for these other properties, so your responsibility would be to receive any important communications/project discussions/updates that need to be shared with the principals and to present any quotes received for official sign off. Very minimal travel required.
Responsibilities:
Supervise a team of around 10 employees, ensuring all their duties are fulfilled on a daily basis. Manage staff on the following items: Chickens, Pond (ex. overall health of pond with the Pond management company, aeration and to treat any algae, etc.) and farm vehicles (tractors, trucks, gators).Liaison between in house and external general contractors. Act as point person for all vendors and farm staff. Oversee organic certification annual report entry & update. Working alongside business management team (Annual farming agreement, onboarding new hires, etc).Manage USDA Farmland assessment + USDA Census of Agriculture Plan and coordinate planting, harvesting, spraying, fertilizing, other general field operations as applicable for farm fields. Ornamental Tree & Forestry management. Fruit tree & turf management. Manage 6 irrigation systems throughout property – including scheduling on/off seasonal service, day-to-day maintenance, emergency calls & monitor timing. Oversee all property repairs. Schedule vendors on a weekly basis (ex. lawn mowing, tree trimming).Keep track of any periodic maintenance needed on the property (ensuring contracts, permits and codes are up to date).Coordinate equipment repairs and preventative maintenance. Purchase supplies and maintain inventory of equipment. (Ex. tools, seeds, fuel, etc)Maintain material piles (bricks, backfill, wind rose, compost).Prep quotes for owners’ approval prior to green lighting projects. Maintain organized record keeping when managing expenses and invoicing. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and agricultural regulations.
Qualifications:
Must be tech savvy Experience with Dropbox and Microsoft excel. Minimum of 2-5 years of farm management/agricultural operations experience. Strong knowledge of standard farming practices and agricultural equipment. Experience supervising employees and coordinating contractors. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons. Construction management experience.
