Job Description:
Sophos Speech and Academics is looking for a passionate, dependable Private Academic Instructor to provide individualized academic support for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. You'll work one-on-one (or in small groups) with students on reading, writing, math, and study skills — helping them build not just academic skills, but the confidence and independence to thrive. Sessions take place in person at the Sophos learning center, partner school campuses, or student homes, giving you variety in your day and the flexibility to build a schedule that works for you. What You'll Do:
Provide one-on-one or small-group academic instruction across K–8 subjects Support homework completion, organization, and academic independence Adapt instruction to each student's needs and curriculum Keep session documentation accurate and on time Communicate session updates to Sophos administration Travel to assigned locations (Sophos center, school campuses, student homes)Build positive, professional relationships with families and staff Great Fits Often Bring Strength InExecutive function and study skills coaching Literacy and written language support Foundational math instruction Intervention or remediation experience
What You'll Need:
Experience working with K–8 or high school aged students in an educational or instructional setting Solid foundational knowledge across core subject areas Reliable transportationA valid Arizona IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (or the ability to obtain one before starting)A professional, dependable presence and genuine comfort working with kids Availability Weekday availability between 8:00 AM–5:00 PM is required to be eligible for referrals.
