About the role

The client is a well-established electric utility responsible for maintaining and operating critical transmission and distribution infrastructure across a large portion of Texas. For decades, the organization has delivered reliable electrical service while investing heavily in system reliability, employee development, and operational excellence. This is an opportunity to join a stable employer where your work directly impacts the communities and businesses that depend on dependable electric power every day. As a Protection & Control Technician, you'll be responsible for testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the protection and control systems that safeguard high-voltage substations. You'll work with protective relays, transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, batteries, AC/DC systems, CTs, PTs, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and associated control equipment, while performing relay programming, electrical testing, calibration, equipment commissioning, and root cause analysis. You'll also support substation construction and modernization projects by installing conduit, terminating control wiring, validating protection schemes, implementing engineering setting changes, interpreting electrical drawings and one-line diagrams, and maintaining accurate testing and maintenance documentation. This opportunity aligns exceptionally well with veterans who have maintained mission-critical electrical and power generation systems. Navy Electrician's Mates (EM), Electronics Technicians (ET/ETN), Army Prime Power Specialists (12P), Power Generation Repairers (91D), Air Force Electrical Power Production (3E0X2), Electrical Systems (3E0X1), and Marine Corps Utilities Electricians bring many of the technical skills required for this role. Veterans who are comfortable troubleshooting energized equipment, reading schematics, following technical procedures, and responding to emergencies will find a natural transition to maintaining utility infrastructure that serves thousands of customers. This is a full-time field position supporting substations throughout the service territory with regional travel and occasional emergency response responsibilities. Technicians use advanced relay-testing equipment, specialized diagnostic tools, electrical schematics, and modern protection systems, working independently and alongside engineering and operations teams. Candidates must be able to respond quickly during outages by living within a 45-minute response radius of the assigned regional office. The organization places a strong emphasis on safety, continuous technical training, and the development of long-term subject matter experts in protection and control. Tolar, Texas, offers the best of small-town living while remaining approximately an hour from Fort Worth and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Residents enjoy a quiet community, affordable housing, excellent outdoor recreation, and easy access to major shopping, entertainment, healthcare, and professional sports without the congestion and cost of a large city. The overall cost of living is approximately 15-20% below the national average, with housing costs considerably lower than most metropolitan areas in Texas. Combined with a competitive starting wage, outstanding benefits, and exceptional long-term career stability, this role offers outstanding purchasing power and an excellent quality of life. Job 59196
