Attorney – Family Law
Chicago, IL | Full-Time | Downtown Chicago Our client, a boutique family law practice in downtown Chicago, is seeking an experienced Illinois-licensed attorney to take meaningful ownership of family law matters and contribute to the firm’s long-term growth. This opportunity is designed for a family law attorney who can manage cases with confidence, exercise sound judgment, and build strong client relationships. You will work directly with the principal attorney while taking substantial responsibility for your own matters, with room to deepen your litigation skills and shape your earning potential through a creative compensation structure.
What You’ll Do:
Manage family law matters involving divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, child support, maintenance, and post-decree issues.
Develop case strategy, guide clients through difficult decisions, and advance matters efficiently from intake through resolution.
Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, financial affidavits, settlement documents, and client correspondence.
Conduct financial discovery, analyze records, and prepare matters for negotiation, mediation, hearings, and trial.
Appear in court, advocate for clients, and collaborate with the principal attorney on complex or contested matters.
Own deadlines, client communications, and the quality of your work product; maintain accurate time records and support effective case management.
What We’re Looking For:
Active Illinois law license and good standing.
3+ years of meaningful family law practice experience, including substantive responsibility for domestic relations matters.
Ability to manage a caseload with appropriate independence, supported by strong litigation judgment and practical knowledge of Illinois family law procedure.
Excellent writing, analytical, organizational, and client communication skills; confidence in court and composure under pressure.
Initiative, responsiveness, attention to detail, and an interest in becoming a long-term contributor to a boutique practice.
Openness to a compensation package that combines salary with productivity-based earning opportunities. Cook County domestic relations experience is a plus. Compensation
The firm is open to shaping a compensation package around the right attorney’s experience, case responsibilities, and contribution to the practice. The anticipated approach combines a base salary with productivity-based incentives and may include additional compensation for originated business.
This opportunity will appeal to an attorney who values a clear connection between contribution and compensation. Final salary, incentive measures, and payment terms will be discussed during the hiring process. Additional earnings depend on performance and the agreed structure. Benefits & Work Arrangement
Health insurance offered. Downtown Chicago office, with Monday–Thursday in office and the possibility of remote Fridays, subject to court and client needs.
