About the role

Bus Aide Chambersburg Area School District is seeking a Bus Aide to ensure the safety and well-being of students while they are being transported to and from school. Essential Requirements:High School Diploma or equivalent Valid PA Driver's License and safe driving record.$2.00/hour differential provided if employee has a CDL license with an "S" endorsement Experience working with children, especially in a school or transportation setting preferred. Experience working with children with special needs. Bilingual and bicultural expertise is an asset Essential Functions:Ability to assist students with boarding and disembarking when necessary Ability to interact clearly and effectively with students, parents and school staff Ensures students medical equipment and wheelchairs are properly handled and secured Assists students in and out of car seats, when necessary. Ensures seat belts are properly fastened in vehicles equipped with seat belts Must be patient and understanding, especially when working with younger children and those with special needs. Ability to lift or assist students with disabilities, if necessary, and remain alert during the entire bus ride Ability to handle emergencies or conflict situations calmly and efficiently Ensure the safety and security of all passengers by enforcing appropriate behavior during transport Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle Keep records of daily routes, students transported, and any incidents or issues Perform all other duties as assigned Competencies:Organization Written/Oral Communication Ability to interact positively with students, parents and school personnel Patience, responsibility, and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules and operating manuals. Detail Oriented Personal Effectiveness/Credibility Thoroughness Time Management Working knowledge of computer systems Problem Solving Teamwork Terms of Employment:School Year, Non-exempt Position Compensation as per the Agreement between Transportation Personnel and the Chambersburg Area School District Evaluation:Performance of the Transportation Bus Aide will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Transportation in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of support employees.
