Tech Lead - Clinical Diagnostic Lab 100% Remote - Quarterly Travel Required 12 Month Contract - High Likelihood of Continuous Extension Unable to do C2C or Provide SponsorshipAbout the RoleThe Clinical Diagnostic Lab is looking for a Tech Lead who can work with our core Tech@Lilly team to set technical direction while also getting hands-on to build, configure and run the platforms behind our lab operations. This role pairs general technical oversight with development execution across various technical platform to ensure our systems are secure, reliable, and compliant.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Strong hands-on DevOps experience, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), and automation. Working knowledge of AWS services and architecture. Hands-on experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).Solid Linux background, including system administration, scripting, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in Python and Java. Demonstrated experience leading technical execution, guiding engineers, and delivering across multiple workstreams. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical teams and non-technical lab stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Own the technical direction and execution of CDL initiatives, translating business and lab needs into secure, scalable, resilient solutions. Partner with current Tech@Lilly team, CDL business partners, and external vendors to align on priorities and execute technical deliveries. Lead the design, build, and operation of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing and deployment practices. Architect, deploy, and manage containerized workloads and cloud infrastructure on AWS.Serve as technical lead across multiple concurrent projects, giving hands-on guidance to BAs, technical staff and support teams. Define and maintain technical standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices for the CDL technology landscape. Mentor and develop technical colleagues, sharing knowledge in cloud, automation, and secure engineering to broaden the team's impact. Partner with Cyber Security, Privacy and lab stakeholders to align on strategy, shared standards, and secure-by-design technical approaches. Drive observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response to improve uptime, fault tolerance, and recoverability. Champion modernization by reducing technical debt, standardizing environments, and automating manual operational work. Embed security and compliance into the delivery lifecycle (DevSecOps), including vulnerability management, secrets management, access controls, and audit readiness.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, GxP, or computer system validation).Experience using AI-assisted development and automation tools to improve engineering productivity.
