Transportation Manager Assistant Under general supervision, a Transportation Manager Assistant is responsible for the safe, orderly and on-time transportation of students in an assigned area through the effective support of school bus drivers and other transportation personnel. The Transportation Manager Assistant also serves as a substitute bus driver throughout the district as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide safe, consistent transportation to and from school for all eligible UCPS students; as well as supporting field trips or other special occasions. Provides quality customer service to bus drivers, parents, staff, and schools. Communicates professionally with internal and external stakeholders. Facilitates supervising, verifying, and completing required personnel actions to maintain a professional bus driver staff Maintain a working knowledge of school bus routing software, GPS system, and other Transportation Department computer programs to support daily operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law. Conduct and properly document accident investigations, ensuring compliance with state laws and local policies in a timely manner. Follow procedures for verifying eligibility to hire bus drivers, DOT and non-DOT drug testing, and discipline documentation. Maintain payroll records for assigned drivers; make and communicate adjustments as needed (failure to clock in/out, GPS validated adjustments, etc.).Drive as a substitute bus driver, as needed throughout the district Coordinate and participate in professional training and in-services for bus drivers. Serves as primary back up during absence of the Transportation Manager Monitor student accommodations, inspect equipment and train staff related to individual student 504/IEP needs Effectively produce professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer. Assists with bus inspections in assigned area. Provide after hours on call assistance when needed via department issued cell phone or email Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. Clean driving record. First Aid Certification Possess valid North Carolina commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B with endorsements P- passenger, S-school bus. Possess a valid DOT medical certification Possess ability to utilize Microsoft Office platforms Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Commercial driver license (CDL) holders and applicants must meet the medical qualifications set by the N.C.
General Statute Medical Qualifications:
Standards Applicable to Commercial Drivers. Customer Relationships Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or group.
Physical Requirements
Work Environment:
Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 20 lbs., rarely; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices. Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoor exposure to outside weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.
