Job Description The Role: The 5-Axis CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating 5-axis CNC milling machines to manufacture complex, high-precision graphite components. We are looking for an experienced machinist who can work independently, troubleshoot machining issues, and consistently produce components to demanding quality standards.
Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines. Manufacture complex precision components from engineering drawings and specifications. Set tooling, fixtures, work offsets, and machine parameters. Load, prove out, and adjust CNC programs as required. Optimize tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining processes to improve cycle times and efficiency. Perform tool changes and machining adjustments. Inspect finished components using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment. Maintain dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and required surface finishes. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues. Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle-time reduction, scrap reduction, quality, and machine utilization. Complete production and inspection documentation accurately. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment. Experience & Skills 5+ years of CNC machining experience. Proven experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC milling machines. Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles, tooling, feeds and speeds, offsets, and workholding. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. Experience manufacturing components to tight tolerances. Strong understanding of inspection and measuring equipment. Ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Experience with Roeders and/or Hurco CNC machinery is preferred. Experience machining graphite is beneficial but not required.
