About the role

The Newcastle Search Group is conducting a search on behalf of an established organization for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This is a full-time, hybrid opportunity in Chicago, IL, offering the opportunity to take ownership of key accounting functions while partnering with internal teams and accounting leadership.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a variety of general accounting functions, including month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and accounting analysis. This individual will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting requirements, and identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities. Prepare and post accurate journal entries and maintain supporting documentation. Prepare and review account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely. Prepare financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules. Analyze financial results and provide explanations for significant variances. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed. Support annual audits and provide schedules and documentation to external auditors. Assist with tax-related requests and year-end reporting. Research accounting issues and assist with appropriate accounting treatment. Monitor accounting activity for compliance with GAAP and company policies. Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and other accounting functions as needed. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls. Assist with special projects, system implementations, and ad hoc financial analysis. Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting and financial issues. QUALIFICATIONS4+ years of progressive accounting experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close processes. Strong Excel skills and experience working with financial data and reporting schedules. Experience with an ERP or accounting system. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus but not required.
