About the role

The Florida Department of Children and Families seeks an Epidemiologist for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health office to lead public health surveillance and epidemiological investigations focused on the opioid misuse disorder epidemic in Florida. The role requires independent judgment and collaboration across program sections to monitor trends, conduct investigations, and support implementation of the Florida Opioid Epidemic Response Plan. This position is based in Tallahassee and is not remote.
Key qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Biology, Microbiology, Epidemiology or related field plus ten years of epidemiology, data analysis, and reporting experience
  • High proficiency with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, Epi Info, R, or ArcGISExtensive knowledge of public health surveillance principles and epidemiological methods
  • Ability to manage and manipulate large datasets
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong organizational skills
