About the role

Our client, a private equity real estate firm based here in Charlotte, is seeking an Associate, Fund Accounting to join their team as they continue to expand operations. This individual will be responsible for accounting, reporting, and cash activities for a portfolio of real estate investment entities, and they will partner with other internal Accounting and Investor Relations professionals to support property operating results, investor cash distributions, and capital raise activities. Previous fund accounting experience is preferred but not required, so this is a great opportunity for those interested in Real Estate or Private Equity to gain experience with hands-on fund-level accounting!
Essential Functions: Perform full-cycle, accrual-based accounting for a portfolio of real estate investment entities. Record journal entries related to investor closings, including cash receipts, closing costs, and related expenses. Process accounts payable for assigned entities, ensuring timely and accurate invoice entry, approval, and payment by check or electronic methods. Calculate monthly investor cash distributions, initiate payments, and record the related general ledger transactions. Review, maintain, and reconcile general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Complete month-end close activities, including bank reconciliations, balance sheet account support, accruals, and adjusting journal entries. Maintain accurate tracking of investor capital accounts. Prepare supporting documentation for tax return preparation and financial statement audits. Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial and investor reporting. Participate in process improvement initiatives that support scalability, internal controls, and operational excellence.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with fund accounting structures and investor capital tracking. Familiarity with Yardi or similar accounting systems preferred. Comfortable navigating cloud-based, web-based, and accounting software platforms.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 1+ years of relevant accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
