Medical Laboratory Scientist

St. Mark's Hospital seeks a Medical Lab Scientist to perform complex clinical laboratory testing to support high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include processing and analyzing specimens in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis; validating results; operating and troubleshooting analyzers; and maintaining quality control and regulatory compliance. The scientist will collaborate with physicians and nurses, prioritize STAT and emergency testing, ensure accurate documentation, and contribute to process improvements in a fast-paced, emergency-focused environment. Perform and validate routine and complex laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and microbiology Process, label, and prioritize specimens, including STAT and emergency department samples Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers Maintain quality control, participate in proficiency testing, and follow CLIA/CAP standards Document results accurately in the laboratory information system (LIS) and communicate critical values promptly Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to support patient diagnosis and treatment Follow infection control, safety, and biohazard handling protocols Assist with training of new staff and contribute to workflow and process improvements Clinical laboratory testing Specimen processing Hematology Chemistry analyzers Microbiology techniques Quality control and assurance Laboratory information systems (LIS) Regulatory compliance (CLIA/CAP) Phlebotomy and sample collection Instrument troubleshooting Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k ASCP or AMT Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification preferred or eligible Current state clinical laboratory personnel license if required by Utah regulations BLS certification preferred Experience in hospital or emergency department lab environment
