About the Role:
UniMove is seeking a skilled Machinist to join our production team in Palmerton, PA. This position is opening due to an upcoming retirement, offering a rare opportunity to step into a long-term, stable role within a supportive and established environment. Unlike modern high-volume, automated production environments, this position focuses on traditional craftsmanship, custom part fabrication, and mechanical problem-solving. You will work closely with a small, close-knit team where your expertise is valued, and your input directly shapes daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Manual Machining: Set up and operate traditional manual machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) to fabricate custom components and low-volume parts.
Department Management: Take complete ownership of the machining area, including material selection, inventory tracking, tool management, and daily workflow scheduling.
Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation: Manufacture high-precision parts from basic technical drawings, rough sketches, or sample components.
Problem Solving & Design Input: Use independent thinking to troubleshoot fitting issues, determine optimal machining sequences, and assist in component design choices.
Quality & Fit Evaluation: Inspect finished components to ensure precise fit and function within our product assemblies.
Team Collaboration: Work directly with shop floor peers (including ongoing knowledge transfer during the transition period with our retiring machinist) to maintain workflow efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
Proven experience operating manual machine tools in a job shop or custom manufacturing setting.
Technical Skills:
Ability to work comfortably with basic engineering drawings, manual measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators), and standard shop machinery.
Mindset: Strong independent thinking, self-motivation, and pride in craft-oriented machine work.
Culture Fit: A collaborative attitude and strong communication skills to work effectively alongside team members.
What We OfferJob Stability: Long-tenured team with a track record of steady, reliable employment.
Craftsmanship Focus: A rewarding hands-on environment removed from modern fully automated/CNC lines.
Comprehensive Benefits Package:
Competitive pay, health insurance, and paid time off. Structured Onboarding: Direct overlap and transition support with our outgoing senior machinist to set you up for success.
