Motor Applications Engineering Internship Job Category : Engineering Requisition Number : MOTOR001921 Posted : October 5, 2026 Full-Time On-site Locations Showing 1 location Toshiba Headquarters 13131 West Little York Road Houston, TX 77041, USA Description Job Summary Toshiba International Corporation is seeking a motivated Motor Applications Engineering Intern to support the Motors Applications Engineering team. This internship provides an engineering student with practical experience applying engineering principles to industrial electric motor applications while gaining exposure to the technical and commercial aspects of Applications Engineering. The intern will work alongside Applications Engineers and other cross-functional team members to understand customer operating requirements, review technical specifications, assist with product selection, and support the development of motor solutions for industrial applications. This position is designed to provide hands-on exposure to electric motors, rotating equipment, customer specifications, engineering documentation, product selection, and technical sales support while developing the skills needed for a potential career in Applications Engineering.
Responsibilities:
Assist Applications Engineers with the review of customer specifications, technical requirements, and application information. Support the selection and application of electric motors based on customer and operating requirements. Assist with evaluating application factors such as horsepower, speed, torque, voltage, operating environment, duty requirements, and other technical considerations. Review customer specifications and help identify technical requirements that impact motor selection and configuration. Assist with preparing technical information and documentation used to support customer quotations and proposals. Support the review of product offerings and configurations to determine alignment with customer requirements. Work with Applications Engineering, Sales, Design Engineering, and other internal teams to help resolve technical questions. Assist with maintaining and developing technical product documentation, application information, presentations, and related engineering materials. Participate in technical discussions to gain exposure to electric motor operation, motor applications, and industrial equipment. Assist with technical calculations, data analysis, and product comparisons as assigned. Support engineering projects involving product applications, customer requirements, documentation, and process improvement. Perform other engineering projects and assignments as needed.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline. Completed or currently completing foundational engineering coursework involving mechanics, electrical systems, energy systems, materials, or related subjects. Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and engineering specifications. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work effectively with engineering, sales, and other cross-functional teams. Interest in industrial equipment and customer-focused engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coursework or project experience involving electric motors, rotating equipment, electromechanical systems, power systems, or industrial equipment. Familiarity with AC motors, motor controls, or Variable Frequency Drives. Experience reading engineering drawings, specifications, or data sheets. Exposure to AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, or other engineering software. Previous engineering internship, laboratory, design project, or hands-on technical experience. Interest in applications engineering, technical sales, product engineering, or industrial manufacturing.
