About the role
Commercial Real Estate Senior Associate (Retail Focus) | New York, NY (Hybrid)$270,000 – $290,000 base + billable hour bonuses Empower Staffing is partnering with a nationally recognized, full-service law firm to find a Senior Associate for its growing New York Real Estate practice. This is a chance to join an established team in a practice that’s investing for the long term. The firm is also adding to the junior bench. If you’re a commercial real estate attorney with deep retail experience, especially big box retail, we’d love to talk.
What you’ll do:
- Negotiate and draft commercial retail and office leases, representing both tenants (about 65%) and landlords (about 35%), with a heavy emphasis on retail and big box clients
- Prepare and negotiate purchase and sale agreements for commercial real estate transactions
- Lead due diligence for real estate-related M&A, including review and analysis of complex title reports and policies
- Negotiate SNDAs and lender approval instruments
- Advise on regulatory and land use matters, including occasional representation at municipal hearings
- Work closely with senior partners and internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful transaction outcomes
- What you bring6 to 8 years of commercial real estate transactional experience
- Retail industry experience, including big box retail (the key differentiator for this role)
- Active New York bar admission, in good standing
- Hands-on experience with lease negotiation and drafting, PSAs, due diligence and title review
- Strong research and writing skills and a solid academic record
- A stable career history
Nice to have:
- BigLaw or equivalent-caliber firm experience (strong candidates from smaller, real estate-focused firms with deep retail experience are welcome)
- Both tenant-side and landlord-side experienceSNDA and lender approval instrument experience
- Land use, zoning or municipal hearing experience
