Job Summary:
Operates an asphalt distributor truck used in application of specialized emulsions to roadways and assists paving crews with other tasks related to commercial paving projects.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies• Follow dispatch instructions and adhere to commercial driving regulations• Perform daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT regulations and company guidelines; check fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls required for safe operation• Drive and operate distributor truck equipped with tank to spray asphalt emulsions on road surfaces• Load truck and emulsion tanks, including connecting and disconnecting hoses• Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt and emulsion; clean spray bars as needed• Monitor flow, tachometer and temperature gauges to ensure uniform distribution of product• Observe and monitor product quality and ensure proper application• Maintain housekeeping of vehicle, including interior operator's cab and exterior components• Maintain accurate time, mileage, and delivery logs, and submit forms/paperwork required for accounting purposes• Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor• Operate other vehicles and/or equipment, and assist paving crew with other tasks as assigned Education• High school diploma or equivalent• Class A CDL with doubles/triples, hazmat and tanker endorsement, and clean driving history Skills• 2+ years of experience working in paving operations or similar environment preferred• Prior experience operating a commercial vehicle in an industrial, construction, or similar environment preferred• Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions in English• Ability to complete required paper and/or electronic documentation Physical Requirements• Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role• Regularly uses hands to move and manipulate objects needed for tool use, equipment operation, and manual tasks• Regularly communicates (talk and hear) to coordinate work, receive instructions, and maintain job?site safety• Regularly stands for extended periods and moves across various surfaces or terrain to access different work areas and complete assigned tasks• Regularly climbs on and off equipment and walks across uneven terrain to navigate field sites safely• Regularly works from a seated position for extended periods to operate equipment and vehicles requiring continuous control• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and experiences vibration from operating equipment• Regularly works outdoors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to dust and airborne particles• Regularly works near fuels, oils, and other common workplace chemicals associated with operating or supporting equipment and machinery• Regularly works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs• Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete field tasks• Occasionally works at heights, near, or under electrical hazards when tasks require elevated access or proximity to electrical components• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required Benefits and Perks• Choice of 3 Medical Plan Options• Prescription Drug Coverage• Dental and Vision Plans• Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Options• Access to Telemedicine and Healthcare Advocacy Services• Paid Parental Leave• Employee Assistance Program• Life and AD&D Insurance• Disability Insurance• Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays• 401(k) Savings Plan with Company Match• Product and Service Group Discount Programs The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
