Defense Attorney (Workers’ Compensation) - VA

Summary: Workers Compensation Defense Attorney needed for an in‑house litigation position under the direction of the General Counsel. The attorney will defend litigated Workers’ Compensation claims before hearing locations throughout Virginia and surrounding areas, conduct research, examine records, investigate, attend depositions, consult with witnesses, insureds, legal assistants, and company personnel, and participate in negotiations and settlements. The position also provides leadership and expertise on major company projects.

Evaluate and select appropriate legal techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment. Draft and/or dictate legal correspondence, memorandums, and work with minimal supervision. Conduct legal research and provide timely legal opinions and advice upon reasonable demand. Provide objective assessment of risk areas. Work on special projects as assigned.

Minimum of four (4) years of legal experience, with two years in the insurance industry preferred.
