A leading New York City fine jewelry manufacturer is seeking an experienced jewelry manufacturing professional to lead our CAD and Casting operations in a fast-paced production environment. This is a manufacturing leadership position focused on people, workflow, quality and execution. The successful candidate does not need to be a hands-on CAD designer or caster. They must have a strong understanding of fine jewelry manufacturing and enough familiarity with CAD and casting processes to effectively manage experienced technical teams, identify problems and drive successful production outcomes. The position will work closely with the Shop Manager and Custom Manager to ensure jobs move efficiently from CAD through casting and into production.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day people, workflow and priorities within the CAD and Casting departments. Establish clear priorities, responsibilities and accountability across both departments. Manage CAD workload, turnaround times, revisions, approvals and production priorities. Ensure CAD work is properly reviewed for manufacturability before moving into production. Oversee casting workflow, quality, scheduling and output. Work with CAD designers and casting specialists to identify and resolve production issues. Establish clear handoffs from CAD to printing, casting and downstream production. Identify recurring quality or workflow problems and drive corrective action. Reduce remakes, recasts, delays and unnecessary rework. Establish and maintain operating procedures, quality standards and process controls. Manage, coach, develop and hold employees accountable for performance, quality and delivery. Plan department capacity against production requirements and delivery dates. Work closely with the Shop Manager and Custom Manager on production priorities, quality issues and scheduling. Track department performance, including turnaround time, first-pass quality, remake/recast rates and on-time completion. Evaluate opportunities to improve equipment, technology, workflow and efficiency. Build a collaborative culture focused on quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is an experienced fine jewelry manufacturing leader with a strong understanding of how jewelry moves from design through production. The candidate does not need to personally create CAD models or perform casting. They should have sufficient knowledge of jewelry CAD and casting processes to effectively manage experienced specialists, understand production challenges, identify when something is not working and ensure technical issues are addressed by the appropriate team members. The strongest candidate will bring: Proven experience managing people in a jewelry manufacturing or production environment. Strong understanding of fine jewelry construction and manufacturing processes. Experience managing workflow, priorities, quality and delivery. Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage technical employees without needing to personally perform every technical function. Ability to establish accountability and improve processes across departments. Strong judgment and the ability to balance quality, speed and production requirements. Experience working in an environment producing both repeatable and custom fine jewelry. Hands-on CAD or casting experience is beneficial but is not required. Reporting and Working Relationship The Manager, CAD & Casting Operations will work closely with the Shop Manager and Custom Manager as part of an integrated manufacturing operation. The position will have direct responsibility for the people, workflow, quality and performance of the CAD and Casting departments. Compensation Target base salary: approximately $125,000 annually, plus performance bonus and benefits, commensurate with experience.
