Senior Optical Engineer

Employment Type: Temporary, approximately 3 months (through December 2026).

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Job Summary: Lead optical engineering efforts for a second prototype build of ophthalmic medical devices Provide technical guidance to the Optical Technician and broader engineering team Contribute to component selection and system design for diagnostic/therapeutic devices Develop work instructions, testing procedures, and validation protocols Design production tooling and test fixtures for performance and reliability Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, mechanical, and applied research teams Support transition of products from prototype through manufacturing handoff

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM field Minimum 5 years of experience in optical engineering or photonics Strong optical design, analysis, and testing experience Experience supporting product development from prototype through manufacturing Mechanical design experience (CAD, Solid Works) a plus Familiarity with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax) preferred Experience in regulated environments (FDA QSR, ISO 13485) strongly preferred Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills Self-starter capable of working autonomously in a lab environment
