Survey Party Worker (CST Level I Field Track) We're looking for motivated individuals with hands-on survey experience to join our field team. In this role, you'll support construction staking and design survey operations using advanced digital equipment and field techniques. Working alongside experienced survey professionals, you'll apply your skills to real-world projects while continuing to grow your technical knowledge in areas like data collection, staking, utility locating, and CAD integration. OUR MISSION: The Sanitation Districts protect public health and the environment through innovative and cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management, and in doing so convert waste into resources such as recycled water, energy and recycled materials.
LOCATION: ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SECTION, CARSON FIELD OFFICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform progressively more difficult survey crew tasks with duties that include construction staking support, design survey data collection and other survey operations using digital survey technology and equipment, including duties related to supporting survey operations.
JOB SUMMARY: The major responsibilities are listed below. For a full list, please see the job description. Under general supervision from the Survey Party Chief, the incumbent will: Hold level and plumb rod over station to determine measurement and position Read distance on the chain, level rod, or digital measuring equipment Stake lines or offsetting line using hubs or nails and painting them on street surfaces Take notes on level and bench runs and/or check the notes of others Locate pipes with hand carried transmitter/receiver box Dig up pipes Maintain truck and tools Learn to operate digital survey equipment and able to do so in the absence of a Land Survey Technician Learn to use digital input/output devices and translation protocol to feed survey data to CAD MicrostationMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess: A valid California Class C driver license-AND-SURVEY PARTY WORKER I: Any combination of experience or coursework that provides the knowledge and abilities listed SURVEY PARTY WORKER II: Option 1: Two (2) years of experience performing routine survey duties as a Survey Party Worker I OR Option 2: One (1) year of experience performing duties equivalent to the Survey Party Work II class. Satisfactory completion of college level surveying courses may be substituted for the required experience in increments of six (6) semester units for six (6) months of experienceEXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: The competitive selection process for ALL CLASSES: Knowledge of: Safe work practices Basic hand and power tools, materials and terminology of modern survey technology Principles of geometry, algebra, and trigonometry Elementary engineering survey principles and practices Simple drawing and drafting methods and techniques Digital survey equipment Ability to: Learn to solve survey problems, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry Learn to make survey field notes Perform manual labor requiring physical dexterity and heavy lifting Learn to perform difficult survey assignments and to use the complex tools and digital equipment of the survey trade Perform the full range of rear and head chain work duties Operate digital survey equipment Learn to operate a theodolite/robotic total stationADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Selection Process: All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met. The selection process will consist of a written test and an interview, weighted at 50% each. Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process. The written test is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 25. Candidates successfully passing the written test will be invited to interview on a later date.

Benefits
RETIREMENT: CALPERS: The Districts belong to the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), and all monthly status new hires will be enrolled in CalPERS. Most new hires will be enrolled in the defined benefit formula of 2% @ 62 in accordance with the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) and are required to contribute to the plan (7.75% for the 24/25 fiscal year). Those who qualify based on current or previous public service may be enrolled in the defined benefit formula in place on December 31, 2012, which was 2% @ 55 and are considered "classic" members. For "classic" members, the Districts pay the "employee share."DEFERRED COMP MATCH: For some bargaining units, the Districts provides a matching contribution to an eligible deferred compensation plan pursuant to Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code. The match with each paycheck will be the lesser of: 3% of the employee's base monthly salary as listed in the Salary Schedule; and the amount the employee is contributing with that paycheck. The annual total combined employee and employer contribution are subject to IRS limits.
COMPENSATION: Employees receive annual salary increases until reaching step 5 of the salary range and are provided with opportunities to promote. Cost of living adjustments are implemented annually in accordance with labor agreements.
HEALTH INSURANCE: MEDICAL: Districts paid. Employees may choose from several HMO and Indemnity plans. As of January 1, 2026, the Districts contribute $2,417.99 per month for medical insurance. Depending on the choice of health plan, the Districts contribution covers all or a large portion of the premium for family coverage.
DENTAL: Districts paid. Employees can choose from prepaid and indemnity dental plans. The Districts pay the full premium for employee and dependent coverage. The indemnity dental plan will has an annual in network maximum of $1,750, and an out of network maximum of $1,000.VISION: Employee paid.
LIFE: The Districts pay for a term life policy. Employees can buy additional types and amounts of life insurance coverage at group rates.
LEAVE TIME: VACATION: Employees receive 88 hours of paid vacation after one full year of service, increasing up to 128 hours per year after five years, 168 hours per year after 15 years and up to 208 hours after 25 years. Prior to one year of full service, employees are given partial vacation time on January 1, based on the time worked in the preceding year.
SICK LEAVE: Eight hours of full-pay sick leave per month.
PERSONAL LEAVE: Employees may use up to 24 hours per calendar year from current sick leave for personal reasons. Some bargaining units allow up to 40 hours per calendar year from current sick leave for personal reasons.
PAID PARENTAL LEAVE: Employees may use up to 80 hours of paid parental leave for each birth, foster placement and/or adoption (regardless of the number of children involved) as determined by the parental leave policy.
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays and one-half paid holiday depending on the employee's work schedule. TUITION REI
