About the role

Modeling And Simulation Engineer Associate Precise Systems delivers integrated, mission-ready solutions that advance warfighter readiness and strengthen our nation's most critical defense programs. Through the power of our combined capabilities, we provide deep expertise in Advanced Engineering; Digital Transformation; Electromagnetic Warfare; Interactive Training & Simulation; Physical Sciences Research; Platform Lifecycle Support; and Foreign Military Sales. Unified by decades of trusted performance and expanded through strategic growth, our team applies innovative technologies, engineering rigor, and customer-focused execution to solve complex challenges and accelerate mission success. Guided by our commitment to partnership, precision, and performance, we deliver the scalable solutions and technical excellence our customers depend on-today and into the future. We are seeking a Modeling and Simulation Engineer Associate to deliver FEM and FEA services to our customers at NSWC Carderock. This role requires in-person support.
Duties:
  • Finite Element Modeling (FEM)
  • Prepare full ship models of Navy vessels (LHA-30 and LPD-8) for analysis to support Rough Water Trials
  • Utilize Femap and/or HyperMesh software to correct, refine, or un-refine 1D (beam) and 2D (shell) mesh in areas of interest and/or the entire ship in accordance with 3D product models, structural drawings, and inspections
Create hybrid models of each iteration of the design of BBGN(X) for Underwater Explosion (UNDEX) simulation. This process also involves HyperMesh and Femap, and the models will consist of 1D (beam, rigid), 2D (shell), and 0D (mass) elements Modify BBGN(X) full ship models to add details such as foundations for preliminary design analysis. These detailed areas or sub-models will be all 2D (shell) elements in a nastran-compatible format, using HyperMesh or FemapUn-refine a full ship DDG-51 Flight III model and refining the other (DDG-51) Flight models to match the intermediate mesh requirements of DPC 100-11 for future analysis Refine full ship models of LSD-41 Class to match the intermediate mesh requirements of DPC 100-11 for compatibility with NLignDevelop, alter, modify, and update finite element models related to the analysis of the structural integrity, structural performance, and response of ships, submarines and components. Assure FEM are developed in accordance with FEM guidelines specified in the requirements Assure FEM passes various Quality Assurance (QA) measures specified by the TI, and when appropriate, may include at a minimum, peer review, Government review, commercial software routines and/or analysis and testing. Required
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering related to structural analysis (Aerospace, Civil, Naval Architecture, Mechanical, or equivalent) from an ABET accredited college or university
Required Experience: Two (2) years of experience with finite element analysis including advanced skills with finite element analysis software such as FEMAP.Experience creating and modifying shell (2D) and beam (1D) models in commercial Finite Element (FE) software, especially Femap and/or HyperMesh. Experience with ship structure in the form of drawings or 3D product models (NAVISWORKS), so that they can navigate these references as they verify or correct the FE models. CAD experience (such as SolidWorks)
Preferred Experience: Knowledge of structures, materials, manufacturing, ocean dynamics, or naval structural design. Familiar with naval structures such as ships, submarines, and structural components. Two (2) years of experience with linear and nonlinear analysis of beams, shells, and solids. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
