Attention: Director, Technology IBTHE OPPORTUNITYHarrison Stone & Associates has been retained by a global investment manager known for its research on disruptive innovation to recruit a Director for a developing technology investment banking and strategic capital platform. The business is being built in response to a growing flow of strategic and capital-related opportunities from companies across the firm's innovation ecosystem. The Director will evaluate those opportunities, convert the strongest into well-structured mandates and lead transactions from initial assessment through closing. The role also carries responsibility for developing the execution standards, materials, relationships and operating discipline required to build a durable advisory business. WHY THIS OPPORTUNITYThis is a build role with an existing source of opportunity. The platform begins with differentiated research, sector knowledge and established access to founders, management teams and investors. The Director will use that foundation to deliver sound advice and bring the transaction judgment, discipline and execution required to turn opportunities into completed engagements. The position offers direct exposure to senior leadership, end-to-end ownership of client engagements and a meaningful voice in shaping coverage strategy, execution standards and the platform's future development. The mandate spans sell-side and buy-side M&A, private placements, growth and structured capital, recapitalizations, strategic partnerships and pre-IPO advisory.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate and qualify. Assess incoming M&A, strategic advisory and capital-raising opportunities for fit, readiness, scope and execution requirements, and determine which are genuinely actionable. Execute transactions. Lead engagements from pitch and mandate through valuation, modeling, positioning, materials, diligence, negotiation and closing. Advise across the lifecycle. Counsel innovation-oriented companies on M&A, strategic alternatives, growth capital, private placements, recapitalizations, partnerships and pre-IPO positioning. Build senior relationships. Establish trusted relationships with founders, CEOs, CFOs, boards, financial sponsors, strategic acquirers and institutional investors. Develop technology coverage. Build a durable pipeline across artificial intelligence and software, robotics and autonomy, fintech and digital assets, space, genomics and multiomics, energy storage and advanced manufacturing. Build the operating model. Create evaluation standards, execution playbooks, transaction materials and repeatable workflows for the developing platform. Manage the process. Coordinate legal counsel, accountants, investors, buyers and other counterparties while maintaining process discipline and momentum. Connect research and advice. Work with research and investment professionals within applicable compliance controls and information barriers to translate differentiated sector knowledge into stronger client advice.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Transaction ownership. 7-12+ years of investment banking experience covering technology, innovation or growth companies at a leading global bank, independent advisory firm or specialist boutique, with repeated ownership of live transactions. Technical command. Strong M&A and capital-raising experience supported by excellent financial modeling, valuation, written presentation and process-management skills. Senior client credibility. The presence to advise founders, CEOs, CFOs and boards, together with the judgment to distinguish compelling opportunities from those that are not yet actionable. Private-market fluency. A strong understanding of private-company capitalization, financing structures, investor dynamics and strategic alternatives across public and private markets. Commercial judgment. An emerging record of relationship development and origination, paired with a willingness to remain close to execution. Builder's temperament. Entrepreneurial, low-ego and collaborative; comfortable creating structure, operating through ambiguity and working without extensive junior infrastructure. Credentials. Bachelor's degree required; an MBA, CFA or comparable advanced credential is valued. Appropriate FINRA registrations must be held or obtained promptly. Experience within a registered broker-dealer is preferred. REGULATORY ENVIRONMENTThe Director will operate within a regulated financial-services environment and must comply with applicable information barriers, personal-trading policies, disclosure requirements and regulatory reviews. Appropriate FINRA registrations must be held or obtained promptly. COMPENSATION AND LOCATIONAnticipated base salary is $300,000-$360,000. The position also includes an annual performance bonus and a long-term incentive opportunity. Bonus considerations include individual and firm performance, transaction execution, origination and business development, mandates won, revenue creation and contribution to building the platform. Final compensation will reflect experience and qualifications. The position is based in New York City and will require meaningful travel for client and transaction activity.
