Location: Laredo, TX area |Schedule:
Full-time, on-site |Compensation:$115,000-$140,000 Overview A heavy-civil construction contractor has been awarded a multi-year federal infrastructure contract in South Texas, involving 60+ miles of barrier wall construction, boat ramp construction, patrol road repair and construction, bridge construction, and electrical/lighting/ground detection system installation. The company is seeking a Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee safety compliance across this large-scale linear civil project. Candidates should expect to travel to and live in the Laredo, TX area for the duration of the assignment.
What you'll do:
  • Serve as the designated Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) for a large-scale federal design-build construction project
  • Implement EM 385-1-1 safety requirements across all project activities
  • Develop and oversee Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)
  • Conduct regular safety inspections across the project site
  • Provide subcontractor safety oversight
  • Manage safety protocols for excavation, heavy equipment operation, lifting operations, and other heavy-civil construction hazards
Required qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of construction safety experience
  • Must have served as the SSHO on at least two federal design-build projects, each valued at $5 million or more
  • Strong heavy-civil construction experienceOSHA 30 certification required
  • Demonstrated experience implementing EM 385-1-1 requirements, AHAs, inspections, subcontractor safety oversight, excavation, heavy equipment, and lifting operations
Preferred qualifications: Border infrastructure, roadway, utility, or large linear civil construction experience preferred
