About the role

Company Overview: For over 50 years, our client has engineered and manufactured high-reliability, custom power conversion systems for mission-critical defense, naval, and aerospace platforms. To accelerate commercial growth, the company is launching an off-the-shelf catalog division centered on high-density DC/DC and AC/DC "brick" converters (~2" x 2" x 0.25" form factors, $500–$1,500 volume price point). We are seeking a technically fluent, commercially driven Senior Technical Sales Engineer to serve as a roving road warrior, converting engineering sockets and capturing market share from legacy modular power competitors.
The Opportunity: This is a dedicated individual-contributor hunter seat designed for an electrical engineer who spent 4–6 years in circuit or power design, understands printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) mechanics, and is ready to leverage that engineering expertise into high-upside technical sales. You will interface directly with hardware design engineers, electrical architects, and systems developers who build:
  • Autonomous robotics (AMRs, AGVs, industrial manipulators)
  • Unmanned aerial systems (UAS / drones) and eVTOL platformsAI edge computers and high-performance mobile processing units
  • Tactical mobile communications and field ruggedized electronics
  • Electric vehicle subsystems and industrial motor control equipment
Key Responsibilities: Drive OEM Design-Wins: Target, qualify, and secure commercial design-ins for high-density 800W half-brick and quarter-brick converters, displacing incumbent solutions (e.g., Vicor, SynQor, TDK-Lambda). Technical Consultative Selling: Walk schematics with client hardware engineers, analyze thermal dissipation and power density trade-offs, and demonstrate how our compact footprint saves board real estate while minimizing radiated heat. Roving Field Presence: Spend up to 50% of your time traveling directly to customer design hubs, OEM engineering facilities, and contract manufacturing partners across North America. Rapid-Cycle Commercial Execution: Drive off-the-shelf component sales cycles ($500–$1,500 unit volume pricing) from initial engineering sample to prototype validation, pilot build, and recurring volume production. Channel Collaboration: Partner with independent manufacturer sales rep networks and authorized stocking distributors (e.g., Digi-Key, Mouser, Arrow) to track design registrations and convert quotes. Identify Military Systems Adjacencies: Leverage your engineering presence in customer facilities to surface custom high-voltage/high-reliability military power supply opportunities ($2,500–$125,000 systems) for the company's defense engineering division.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or BSEET is strictly required. Experience Profile: 5–8 years of total professional experience, specifically structured as:3–5 years of hands-on design, test, or applications experience in power electronics, switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), DC/DC converters, or power-dense PCBAs. 2–4 years of demonstrated success in a customer-facing technical sales, Field Applications Engineer (FAE), or Technical Account Manager role with quota accountability. Domain Knowledge: Working understanding of board-mounted power architectures (point-of-load, bus converters, intermediate bus architectures), PCBA manufacturing constraints, thermal baseplates, and switching topologies. Competitive Acumen: Ability to evaluate competitor data sheets (Vicor, SynQor, VPT, Gaia, TDK-Lambda) and articulate electrical and thermal performance differentiators. Location Constraint: Must reside outside the state of California, situated near a major airport hub to support 40–50% domestic travel. Compliance: U.S. Citizenship is strictly required due to ITAR facility compliance and defense account access.
