Survey Crew Chief

Role Description: The Survey Crew Chief is a full-time, on-site role based in Panama City, FL, responsible for leading a field survey crew on a variety of projects. This position oversees daily field operations, including planning work, setting up equipment, and ensuring accurate data collection for boundary, topographic, and ALTA surveys. The Survey Crew Chief will interpret plans and legal descriptions, establish control points, and verify measurements to meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. The role includes coordinating with project managers, maintaining detailed field notes, and ensuring that all work complies with safety standards and company procedures. This position also involves mentoring crew members, troubleshooting equipment issues, and contributing to efficient project scheduling and completion.

Qualifications: Strong proficiency in Land Surveying, including Boundary Surveys and ALTA Surveys. Experience with Topographic Surveys and related mapping tasks. Hands-on experience using Total Station equipment and other modern survey instruments. Knowledge of survey principles, construction staking, and interpretation of engineering plans and legal property descriptions. Ability to lead and supervise a field crew, manage daily work plans, and maintain accurate field records. Comfort working outdoors in varying conditions and lifting or handling survey equipment as needed. Effective communication skills for coordination with office staff, clients, and other project stakeholders. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or coursework in surveying or civil engineering is beneficial. Previous experience as a Survey Crew Chief or lead survey technician preferred; familiarity with GPS and data collection software is a plus. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for operating company vehicles.
