Solution Architect – AWS Data Platform

Company: Confidential Global Hospitality Organization Location: Remote (Preferably in the Greater Chicago Area)

Duration: 6+ Months Rate: $75-$85 per hour (C2C), depending on experience

Position Overview: Our client is focused on advancing its business through data-driven decision-making, automation, and modern cloud technologies. This mission serves as the foundation for creating innovative digital experiences and improving the way data and information are managed across the enterprise. Our client is seeking an experienced Solution Architect – AWS Data Platform to join a growing Data Platform Architecture team. This individual will work closely with data engineering, data product management, data science, application development, architecture, and migration teams to design and implement enterprise-scale data solutions. The Solution Architect will play a key role in the continued development of an Enterprise Data Platform, helping shape and build modern analytical, data engineering, and cloud solutions that support internal business and technology stakeholders. This is a hands-on architecture position requiring deep expertise in AWS, cloud data platforms, data pipelines, security, automation, and infrastructure-as-code. The ideal candidate combines strategic architecture capabilities with the technical depth to prototype, design, and help implement solutions. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, curious, and passionate about using AWS and modern data technologies to solve complex business problems. This individual should be comfortable operating in a highly visible, fast-paced environment and building strong relationships across multiple levels of an organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert architectural guidance to projects to ensure processes, technologies, and deliverables align with the client's target-state architecture, security standards, and enterprise technology strategy.
Design and develop enterprise data solutions based on established architecture principles and standards, leveraging modern cloud and data technologies.
Help design, build, and evolve a scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performing Enterprise Data Platform on AWS.Architect and implement solutions supporting data migration, data ingestion, data delivery, analytics, and machine learning pipelines.
Design and implement AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles, policies, permissions, and security controls.
Develop resilient, reliable, performant, and secure data platforms and applications.
Partner closely with application development, data engineering, data science, architecture, and product teams on solution design, project planning, and implementation.
Design and support scalable and robust data pipelines that enable enterprise analytics and data-driven decision-making.
Automate the provisioning and deployment of AWS services, infrastructure, data solutions, and BI applications.
Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and deployment automation using technologies such as Cloud
Formation and Terraform.
Support the architecture and execution of on-premises-to-AWS cloud migrations.
Design and configure AWS monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities to ensure cloud resource availability and performance.
Create, review, and interpret enterprise architecture diagrams, data flows, security requirements, and technical design documentation.
Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, tools, and architectural approaches and recommend capabilities appropriate for the client's environment.
Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions using new technologies and architectural patterns.
Collaborate with engineering and migration teams to help establish cloud strategy, architecture standards, and implementation approaches.
Troubleshoot complex technical, performance, security, and integration issues across cloud and data environments.

Required Technical Qualifications 6+ years of experience in application engineering, platform engineering, data engineering, cloud engineering, business intelligence, analytics, or related technical disciplines.4+ years of hands-on AWS cloud data engineering and/or architecture experience, including implementing cloud best practices and industry standards. Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data platforms and data architectures on AWS.Experience with cloud data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or comparable platforms. Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS technologies, including: Amazon S3Amazon EC2Amazon RDSAWS LambdaAWS Cloud FormationAmazon KinesisAWS Data Pipeline or comparable AWS data orchestration services Amazon EMRAWS Step Functions Amazon VPCAWS IAMSecurity Groups Experience with database and programming technologies such as SQL, Python, PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, Amazon RDS, MongoDB, and Redis. Strong understanding of AWS IAM roles, policies, permissions, and cloud security practices. Experience with CI/CD technologies, deployment pipelines, and automation, including tools such as: GitHub Actions JenkinsAWS Code PipelineAWS Cloud FormationTerraformStrong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated cloud deployments. Strong scripting and automation experience using Python and/or PowerShell. Experience configuring AWS cloud monitoring, logging, and alerting for resource availability, reliability, and performance. Strong understanding of PaaS and SaaS application architecture and performance. Ability to understand, develop, and communicate enterprise-level application and data architecture diagrams. Strong understanding of enterprise IT security, networking, access control, and cloud governance requirements.

Additional Qualifications: Experience designing and building scalable, reliable, and robust data pipelines supporting analytics and business decision-making. Experience planning and executing on-premises-to-AWS migration initiatives. Ability to solve complex technical problems within ambiguous and rapidly changing environments. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced organization and collaborate across technical and business teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and technical quality. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues. Passion for programming, automation, cloud architecture, data technologies, and continuous learning. Ability to build productive relationships across engineering, architecture, data, product, security, and business organizations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex architectural concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with large-scale enterprise streaming and event-driven architectures, including technologies such as Apache Kafka. Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS Fargate, or other containerization and orchestration technologies. Experience implementing and supporting applications across both Windows and Linux server environments. Strong knowledge of cloud networking, including VPCs, security groups, network controls, and policy management. Experience managing cloud resources across multiple operating systems, including Linux, UNIX, and Windows. Experience with advanced data processing, machine learning pipelines, or cloud-native analytics architectures. Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
