Summary: This position works for JP 1; Answers telephone and assists the public with filing Small Claims, JP Civil, Debt Recovery, Tax Suits and Eviction cases; Issues a variety of civil processes and writs. Notary public for Midland County documents; Enters and scans filed cases into the computer. Has the ability to take over the duties in the absence of the Criminal Clerk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Answers phone and assist the public with filing Small Claims, Debt Recovery, Tax Suits, JP Civil and Eviction cases in Pct 1.Issues a variety of civil processes and writs. Notary public for Midland County documents. Enters and scans filed cases into the computer. Prepares all types of civil bench trial and jury trials. Prepares destruction orders, Tow hearings and occupational license hearings, as directed. Issues receipts for criminal and civil cases. Prepare certified copies of court documents. Prepares appeals in all civil cases. Maintains Judges calendar for all types of hearings and appointments. Maintains all incoming civil correspondence and takes appropriate actions. Sorts and distributes mail in the absence of Criminal Clerk. Take over the duties of the Criminal Clerk when necessary. Prepares credit card payments from the website. Assists with duties at the front counter for both Civil and Criminal. Prepares deposits and takes credit card payments. Regular and timely attendance is required. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. KNOWLEDGE OFStandard office practices and procedures; Principles of customer service. SKILL/ABILITY TOOperate computers, including word processing and spreadsheet applications; Prioritize tasks to be assigned and completed; Read and understand manuals, codes, statutes, journals, memos, etc.; Write letters and memos; Make change, perform basic mathematical calculations; Operate office equipment, such as copy machine and facsimile machine; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
