BEJP President Program Area: BEJP Community Loan Fund About the Brooklyn Economic Justice Project The Brooklyn Economic Justice Project (BEJP), an initiative of Brooklyn Level Up (BKLVLUP), is building community-centered economic infrastructure rooted in the leadership and lived experience of Central Brooklyn residents, small businesses, and grassroots organizations. Its emerging Community Loan Fund offers non-extractive, relationship-based capital to small businesses, cooperatives, and neighborhood-rooted projects often shut out of traditional lending, centering trust, community accountability, and long-term community wealth building.
Position Summary:
BEJP is seeking a Content and Video Fellow to tell the story of the Community Loan Fund through video and short-form content. Working with BEJP's Visual and Media Lead and the BEJP President, the Fellow will concept, film, and edit content that highlights the people and businesses the fund supports and makes community lending easy to understand. This fellowship is ideal for someone interested in video production, on-camera storytelling, social media, community journalism, and economic justice.
What You'll Do:
Storytelling Develop video concepts and short scripts featuring Central Brooklyn small businesses, community leaders, residents, and partners. Create short-form videos, interviews, and captions that explain why the fund exists and why it matters. Document borrower and community stories respectfully, accurately, and with consent. Content Planning and Social Media Help build the monthly content calendar, with a focus on filming, editing, and posting timelines. Produce and post video content for Instagram, Facebook, newsletters, the website, and event promotion. Write captions, scripts, and hooks; engage with community accounts and partners; track what's resonating. Follow the BEJP brand guide so voice, tone, and visuals stay consistent. Community Documentation Attend occasional BEJP events, workshops, and outreach activities in Brooklyn to capture photos, video, and quotes. Support same-day event promotion and create post-event recaps. Keep organized records of footage, captions, consent information, and story ideas. Messaging Support Help create plain-language explanations of non-extractive lending, community investment, and community wealth building. Draft short blurbs, event descriptions, website copy, and talking points.
What You'll Bring:
Ability to develop content concepts from creative direction and storytelling needs. Comfort on camera and the ability to explain what BEJP does in a clear, engaging way. Video editing skills, including proficiency with Cap Cut or similar software. Experience managing or contributing to social media for an organization, campaign, small business, artist, or community project. Strong writing and listening skills, and respect for community voice and lived experience. Organization, follow-through, and the ability to work independently with guidance and feedback. Ability to work with the Branding and Visual Communication Fellow to get design assets and keep the brand consistent. Residence in NYC and familiarity with Central Brooklyn's neighborhoods, small businesses, and cultural institutions. Commitment to racial, economic, and social justice.
Nice to Have:
Animation and motion graphics skills. Experience with events, outreach campaigns, community organizing, or public education. Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to Central Brooklyn communities. Formal communications or marketing experience is helpful but not required. We especially encourage candidates with lived, professional, creative, or community-based experience in Central Brooklyn to apply.
