About the role

Infrastructure Design Technician (Full Time, 12 month Contract | Remote) Optomi, in partnership with one of our clients, is seeking an Infrastructure Design Technician to support the design and provisioning of telecommunications circuits within a large-scale carrier network. This role will focus heavily on Layer 1 circuit design, network topology, and hierarchical traffic relationships, including designing and redesigning circuit paths, investigating how circuits traverse the network, and maintaining accurate Design Layout Records (DLRs) within TIRKS. The Infrastructure Design Technician will work across DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, and IP environments to trace network paths, understand circuit hierarchy and dependencies, and ensure designs accurately reflect the physical network infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings hands-on circuit design experience rather than primarily circuit research or validation experience, along with a strong understanding of transport network topology, provisioning, fiber infrastructure, and TIRKS.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and redesign Layer 1 circuit paths and Design Layout Records (DLRs) within TIRKS to accurately reflect the network build.
  • Investigate and trace circuits through the network, analyzing network topology, circuit hierarchy, traffic relationships, and dependencies.
  • Design and provision internal network orders across DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, and IP transport environments.
  • Analyze existing circuit paths and infrastructure to support circuit reach, routing requirements, network changes, and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Planning teams to provision infrastructure circuits and support network requirements.
  • Analyze fiber configurations, facility assignments, DACS cross-connects, and transport network architecture as part of the circuit design process.
  • Maintain accurate network and circuit records while resolving discrepancies across TIRKS and other applicable systems.
  • Apply today if your background includes:
  • Hands-on experience designing and redesigning telecommunications circuits, including Layer 1 circuit paths and DLRs.
  • Strong experience with TIRKS for circuit design, routing, provisioning, and maintaining circuit records.
  • Experience investigating and tracing circuits through complex network topologies and understanding hierarchical traffic relationships and circuit dependencies.
  • Strong understanding of DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, optical transport, and carrier network architecture.
  • Experience with on-net and off-net routing, facility assignments, DACS cross-connects, and transport provisioning.
  • Understanding of fiber optic network architecture, routing, and inside-plant fiber configurations.
  • Experience with telecom inventory/design systems such as OMNIvue, WFMT, WMS, or BOSS.Knowledge of optical networking equipment from vendors such as Ciena, Fujitsu, and Alcatel-Lucent.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate complex circuit paths and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to independently manage design queues and network orders while meeting SLA, quality, and performance expectations.
