Job Description:
Leumas Engineering Group (LEG) is seeking an experienced and dependable Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, repair, and service the company's construction equipment, diesel-powered machinery, trucks, trailers, and related fleet assets. The mechanic supports LEG's civil construction and underground utility operations by keeping equipment safe, reliable, and available for field use. The ideal candidate can independently troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain components, and construction equipment, while maintaining accurate service records and communicating equipment conditions to management. Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, starting/charging, and powertrain problems on diesel-powered construction equipment and fleet vehicles. Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, final drives, differentials, steering systems, brakes, undercarriages, and associated components. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, fittings, attachments, and related systems. Use manufacturer service information, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, scan tools, multimeters, pressure gauges, and diagnostic software to identify equipment faults. Perform operational testing after repairs and confirm equipment is safe and functioning properly before returning it to service. Complete repairs efficiently and accurately while minimizing avoidable project downtime. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and LEG maintenance schedules. Complete oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid inspections, service interval checks, and routine equipment servicing. Inspect equipment for leaks, excessive wear, loose connections, damaged components, safety hazards, and developing mechanical issues. Monitor service intervals based on operating hours, mileage, and manufacturer requirements and report upcoming maintenance needs. Identify developing failures early and recommend corrective action before they result in major repairs or jobsite downtime. Respond to equipment breakdowns at active construction sites and perform field diagnostics and repairs when practical. Determine whether equipment can safely remain in operation or must be removed from service. Coordinate with superintendents, project personnel, equipment operators, and management regarding equipment problems and repair priorities. Assist with equipment mobilization/demobilization and urgent repairs outside normal operating hours when needed to support project continuity. Perform scheduled and unscheduled equipment inspections, including tires, tracks, cutting edges, buckets, hydraulic attachments, lights, alarms, mirrors, cameras, and other safety devices. Identify parts required for repairs and provide accurate model, serial number, and component information when ordering parts. Help maintain an organized inventory of commonly used filters, fluids, hoses, fittings, parts, and maintenance supplies. Maintain accurate service records showing equipment hours/mileage, repairs performed, parts installed, fluids used, deficiencies identified, and follow-up work required. Protect company tools, diagnostic equipment, service vehicles, parts, and supplies from loss, misuse, or damage.
