About the role

s degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences; and ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as MLS or MT. In the Biochemical Genetics laboratory, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs testing methods for diagnosis, study, and monitoring of patients with aminoacidopathies, organic acidemias, fatty acid oxidation disorders and other inherited metabolic diseases. Performs qualitative and quantitative determination of diagnostic markers based on a variety of manual, automated and chromatographic methods including enzymology, spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Participates in preparing specimens for processing; establishing, performing, and documenting quality assurance, quality control; confirming and verifying results through in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments.
