K-12 Academic Tutor – Education Nonprofit

City Year is seeking an Academic Tutor to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. In this full-time role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to align support with classroom instruction. You will serve as a mentor and positive role model, helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop effective learning habits. Provide targeted academic tutoring in core subjects to K-12 students Serve as a near-peer mentor, building positive, supportive relationships Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring with classroom goals Track and report student progress using school and City Year tools Support classroom management and create an engaging learning environment Facilitate small group and one-on-one learning sessions Participate in training, reflection, and professional development Engage with families and school staff to support student success Tutoring in core subjects (English, math, science) Lesson planning and session preparation Student assessment and progress tracking Classroom support and management Use of educational technology and online learning tools Data entry and basic reporting Communication with teachers and school staff Time management and scheduling Basic counseling and mentoring techniques Cultural competency and working with diverse youth Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Bachelor’s degree preferred (or significant progress toward completion) Prior experience working with youth (paid or volunteer) Background check and ability to meet school district clearance requirements Commitment to a full academic year of service Strong interest in education, youth development, or social justice
