About the role

Ophthalmic Assistant The Ophthalmic Assistant provides clinical, technical, and administrative support to ophthalmologists and the ophthalmology care team to facilitate efficient, high-quality patient care. This position prepares patients for examinations, obtains and documents medical histories, performs preliminary ophthalmic testing, assists with examinations and in-office procedures, and operates and maintains ophthalmic diagnostic equipment. The role also supports clinical documentation, patient education, care coordination, and daily clinic operations while maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, and compliance with established clinical protocols.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.· Certified Ophthalmic Assistant preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology or optometry required.· Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong communication and customer service skills required.· Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with EMR systems required.· Ability to multitask and work well with clinical teams required.· Excellent interpersonal and patient-care skills.· Attention to detail and strong organizational ability.· Manual dexterity for handling optical instruments.· Ability to follow clinical protocols and safety procedures.· Compassionate, calm, and professional demeanor.
