Sr. Software Engineer, Financial Platform

Overview As a Senior Software Engineer on Zipline’s Financial Platform, you will help convert operational activity into accurate financial records at scale. You’ll strengthen the end-to-end workflow from real-world events to billing, settlement, and ERP entries, enabling reliable, auditable financial processes. You will collaborate with Finance, Commercial, Manufacturing, Operations, Data, and Marketplace Engineering to replace manual steps with durable software. You’ll work on backend services and event-driven systems that ensure financial correctness and scalable reconciliation. This role offers a meaningful impact by shaping how Zipline bills and records global logistics activity. Responsibilities Design and build backend services and full-stack apps for financial event processing, billing, pricing, taxation, settlements, reconciliation, inventory costing, and ledger workflows Create idempotent, replayable, ordered, and auditable event-driven systems tracing every transaction from operational events to accounting Translate finance and commercial workflows into scalable software in partnership with domain stakeholders Integrate operational systems with ERP, payment providers, tax engines, banking, manufacturing, and partner platforms Automate reconciliation and manual accounting workflows to reduce errors and speed month-end close Own APIs, data models, service boundaries, observability, health metrics, and runbooks for production reliability Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring; drive projects from concept to production Key requirements 5+ years building production backend systems at scale Strong distributed-systems design, data modeling, and API design skills Rigorous approach to consistency, idempotency, transactional integrity, and event ordering Experience translating complex workflows for business stakeholders into software Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and improve reliability through observability and automation Regular on-site presence in South San Francisco with Finance and engineering teams Prior experience with billing, payments, ERP integrations, reconciliation, accounting systems, ledgers, or marketplace settlements is strongly preferred (not required)Stakeholder collaboration Mentoring and leadership Problem-solving and pragmatic decision-making Distributed systems design Data modeling and API design Event-driven architecture, idempotent and ordered processing
