Flight Software Engineer

Overview In this role you will design and own the autonomous flight software powering Apex’s satellite buses, ensuring 24/7 reliability across scenarios. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers to translate requirements into robust, scalable software solutions. You’ll influence the software lifecycle from design through deployment, with hands-on testing and commissioning support during launch. This is a mission-driven opportunity to help scale spacecraft operations and advance commercial space access. Compensation / Benefits Equity in Apex 100% company-paid health coverage (medical, dental, vision)Life insurance Generous PTO and holidays 401(k) with substantial matching Parental leave and childcare reimbursement Responsibilities Design, implement and own mission-critical software for satellite systems Support spacecraft commissioning during launch and early operations Own software solutions from design to deployment lifecycle Conduct unit, integration, and system-level testing and resolve defects Collaborate with cross-functional teams to baseline requirements and roadmaps Key requirements 3+ years of total flight software experienceU.S. Person status required Proficiency in Python, C++, Rust Experience with real-time systems on distributed hardware Knowledge of embedded Linux, Yocto, system administration, and creating Linux distributions Familiarity with CCSDS and ECSS satellite protocols Experience with software integration, testing, and validation for real-time and distributed systems Familiarity with TCP/IP, UDP, Protobuf and encryption Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams Problem-solving mindset with focus on practicality and scalability Adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Real-time distributed systems Embedded Linux and YoctoCCSDS and ECSS protocols
