About the role

El Popocatepetl Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Bilingual Human Resources Administrator / Coordinator to join our HR team. This is a hands-on position combining HR administration and coordination responsibilities. The HR Administrator / Coordinator will work closely with employees, supervisors, payroll and management to support day-to-day HR operations, including onboarding, employee records, benefits administration, timekeeping and payroll preparation, attendance, compliance, recruiting, and employee support. We're looking for someone who is organized, approachable, and proactive. Someone who takes ownership, follows through, identifies issues, and works toward solutions rather than waiting to be told what needs attention.
What You'll Do: Coordinate onboarding, new hire orientation, I-9 documentation, and pre-employment requirements Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within HRIS and payroll systems Process employee changes, including hires, transfers, and terminations Support benefits administration, including enrollments, employee changes, documentation, and employee questions Coordinate weekly payroll preparation by reviewing time records, identifying discrepancies and missed punches, and working directly with employees and shift managers to resolve issues prior to payroll processing Monitor attendance, PTO, sick time, accrual balances, and related employee documentation Support compliance with the Chicago Fair Workweek Ordinance, including scheduling requirements and Predictability Pay Serve as a day-to-day HR resource for employees and supervisors regarding policies, procedures, benefits, attendance, and timekeeping Assist with workers' compensation, employment verifications, HR reporting, and audits Coordinate employee training, meetings, and other HR initiative Partner with supervisors and managers to ensure HR documentation and employee matters are addressed timely Support HR projects, process improvements, and other departmental initiatives
Qualifications: Bilingual English/Spanish required 3+ years of Human Resources experience required; 4+ years preferred Working knowledge of the Chicago Fair Workweek Ordinance, including scheduling compliance and Predictability Pay Knowledge of Chicago and Illinois employment requirements Experience with timekeeping, payroll preparation, attendance tracking, PTO/accruals, and employee documentation Experience with HRIS, payroll, and/or workforce management systems; Net Suite Suite People/WFM experience is a plus Strong proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Calendar and Microsoft Office Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, supervisors, management, payroll specialist and outside partners Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, but not required
